While strolling around the sacred fire, the newlyweds exchange marital vows and collectively pray for a blissful married life. Every time the newlyweds go around the sacred fire, they make a promise to each other.

The vows made by the newlyweds should not be broken or divided in any way. Each time when the newlyweds go around the sacred fire, it's equal to 360 degrees. The number 360 can be divided by 1,2,3,4,5,6,8, and 9 but not 7. It's considered as the seven pledges exchanged between the newlyweds can't be broken. In Sanatan, marriage is a lifelong commitment, not a contract. After the seventh round, the couple legally becomes husband and wife.

1st round = 1st promise = is the prayer to the Lord for provision and nourishment.
2nd round = 2nd promise = is for strength in sickness, health, good times, or hard times.
3rd round = 3rd promise = is for the bride and groom's prosperity.
4th round = 4th promise = is for families to stand by them through thick and thin.
5th round = 5th promise = is for progeny.
6th round = 6th promise = is for health through sickness and in health.
7th round = 7th promise = is for love and friendship.
